Here´s a new way you need to start thinking about hypnotism. It´s easy, it´s fun, and it´s all around you all the time. Hypnosis is everywhere. It is not something to be afraid of, or amazed by, or thought of as confusing or complicated. It is all around you.
You are watching TV and suddenly you hear a friend say to you: “Have you heard a single thing that I have been saying to you?” You didn´t even realize that they were in the room. You were so pulled by the enticement of what you were watching on the television, or what I like to refer to as “lobotomy box”
You are at a club, the lights are flashing, the music is loud and pounding, people are all swaying in a rhythmic gyration of sound light and movement. The next thing you know, it´s 4 hours later. Where did the time go?
You are driving home from a long weekend away and you are thinking about work, relationships, money, God, politics or whatever. Suddenly, you are pulling up into your driveway. You´ve just driven 400 miles and you don´t really remember with any certainty where were oh how you got home? How is that possible?
TV writers and executives have known the secrets of how to pull people in and take control of their thoughts, wants and desires for years. That´s how advertising works. Of course, every one out there thinks that advertising doesn´t work on them, which is why it is so successful. People who think they are immune are often the most susceptible ones. Trust me. When corporations are willing to spend over a million dollar for a thirty second commercial during the “Super Bowl” you better believe the have some empirical evidence and data the proves their investment will give them a proper R.O.I (Return On Investment). Otherwise, they would never part with a million dollar in the first place.
Think of the companies you see on the television on a daily basis. Are they on the brink of extinction or are these guys doing pretty darned well for themselves. Hey, are you starting to believe that hypnosis in marketing works? Hypnosis works! And in one form or another, it is all around you.

Hypnosis all around? Your point is well taken.
More accurately, trance is all around, as your examples demonstrate; and yet not all trance is hypnosis. Marketers use many of the same techniques hypnotists use to bypass consious resistance, but to call that hypnosis is a semantic stretch, that doesnot ring true.
During years of working night shift there were many mornings I arrived home without a recollection of my trip home. Was I entranced? Definitely. Was I hypnotized? No. There was no collaborative process between me and a hypnotist, there was no acceptable suggestion offered, and there was no intentional use of the trance state to achieve an outcome (three elements that differentiate trance from hypnosis). Is this just a matter of definitions? Yes, and it’s important, because to equate all trance and social influence with hypnosis (”in one form or another”) just muddies the definition of hypnosis.

I have to say this has happened to me more than once, getting somewhere and not knowing or remembering anything about the trip. Thanks for your insights.
